Homemade Flaxseed Dog Biscuits

  • 2 and 2/3 cups of whole wheat flour
  • 2 and ½ cups bread flour (you may also skip bread flour altogether)
  • ¼ cup of wheat germ
  • One teaspoon of salt
  • Two tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1/3 flax seeds
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • Three eggs
  • ½ cup powdered dry milk
  • 1 cup warm chicken or beef broth

Preheat your oven at about 163 ⁰C. And prepare parchment paper or sheets.

Biscuits for your dog

Combine flours, wheat germ, brown sugar, salt and flaxseeds in one large bowl. Stir in vegetable oil and then add the eggs, one at a time, and mix well after adding each one.

Dissolve the dry milk in the warm chicken or beef broth. And, then stir in this mixture into the flour mixture and mix until you form a firm, yet workable dough. If needed, add a little flour or broth – depending on whether you need a smoother or a firmer dough!

Now wrap the dough in a plastic wrap and set aside to rest for around 15 to 20 minutes.

Afterward, roll the dough and spread it out to 1 or ½ cm thick. Cut out biscuits shapes using the desired shape cutter and then place the biscuits on sheet pans.

Bake at 163 ⁰C for 25 to 30 minutes, until the biscuits are brownish and hard. Take them out of the oven and allow cooling.

You can store them in an airtight container for 2 or 3 weeks!

The whole procedure:

  • Preparation Time: 30 minutes
  • Waiting Time: 15 minutes
  • Baking Time: 25 minutes
  • Yields: around 40 to 50 biscuits

Double Banana Dog Treats

  • In a larger bowl, mix the oat flour, the mashed bananas, and two eggs. If the dough is sticky, add more oat flour until you achieve the desired texture.
  • Place the dough in a floured board and roll it to around half cm thick.
  • Using a cookie cutter, cut the treats and place them on a parchment lined baking sheet.
  • Make shallow indentations on top of each treatment with your thumb and then lay a banana slice on top.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for approximately 20 or 25 minutes until the edges get brown and the banana slices feel dry to the touch.
  • Remove from oven and allow complete cooling.
  • Store treats in an airtight container in the refrigerator.

Homemade Peanut Butter Dog Treats

  • 1 cup peanut butter
  • 1 cup of milk

  • Roll out the dough to your desired thickness
  • Using cookie cutters, cut out your preferred treat shapes
  • Place them on a cookie sheet
  • Bake for around 15 to 20 minutes at 190⁰C

2-ingredient dog treats (or with pureed meat)

  • 2 cups of organic whole-wheat flour (you can also use wheat germ, spelled or rolled oats. A combination of all these is a good choice, too!)
  • Two jars of puree baby food – either beef, blueberry, sweet, potato, chicken or other

Amazing dog treat with only two ingredients

  • Preheat your oven to 177⁰C
  • Mix all the ingredients to form a stiff dough. If needed, add more flour or water to make the required dough texture
  • Roll out the dough evenly, around ½ cm thick
  • Using cookie cutters, cut the mixture into the desired treat shape
  • Bake for 20 to 25 minutes
  • Allow cooling entirely before storing the treats into a paper bag, as airtight containers may turn them a little on the soft side
  • You can get more creative and include other tasty ingredients like grated carrots, sweet potatoes, parsley, blueberries, bananas or any other preferable component as long as they are not toxic for your dog

If these measures make too many biscuits, you can always freeze either the dough or the treats for later use!

  • One sweet potato, cooked and cooled
  • ¼ cup of coconut oil
  • 2 cups quinoa flour

  • Add about a half cup of quinoa flour at a time, until the dough sticks together

  • Considering that the quinoa flour is not as elastic as regular flour, the batter might break, but you can always bring it back to the initial form and maneuver carefully
  • Bake your treats for around 20 to 25 minutes
  • Turn your oven off and let the gifts stay in the oven for another 45 minutes or an hour to dry out
  • Take the treats out of the oven and let them cool completely
