A dog’s trainability depends on the obedience levels that they are built with just as much as it depends on their IQ!
The ranking below is based on both, obedience and intelligence.
1. Border Collie
Border Collie is the most intelligent dog without a doubt! They will surely outsmart you in many circumstances, so be prepared! They are also very loving and caring creatures who quickly find the way into your heart! High activity and attention are traits they have inherited in order to intimidate and gather livestock!
2. Poodle
The Poodle is not just a “girly-girly” dog, despite their refined-grooming look! These dogs are water retrievers, hunting dogs and highly intelligent and obedient – therefore, very easy to train!
3. German Shepherd
The movie star and the workaholic dog, the German Shepherd is a very smart and brave dog! It is not by plain coincidence that these dogs are known as “police officers”!
4. Golden Retriever
With the softest dog-mouth and smart brains, these dogs are great service dogs and companions. Behaving comes naturally to Goldies!
5. Shetland Sheepdog
“The Shetlie” is a herding dog and their desire to please does never diminish. Being always focused to work, makes training very easy!
6. Labrador Retriever
Labrador Retriever it is very hard not to love these cuddles! They are fun, loving and energetic and they learn very fast! You do not have to be a great trainer, as the Lab will meet you halfway!
7. Papillon
Delicate, trademark ears that flow like butterfly wings make them adorable pets! They reflect a self-assured personality and they are lovely companions to travel with! Their IQ is believed to be equivalent to that of the Border Collie!
8. Doberman Pinscher
Their looks serve these dogs no justice, as they are very loving, intelligent, strong and loyal dogs! Very easy to train as the Dobermans are usually at the top of the obedience class!
9. Rottweiler
Are highly energetic and they crave a lot of work! Train them from an early age and you will have great results for a loving family member – the Rotties are fantastic dogs!
10. Australian Cattle Dog
Speckled with colors, these dogs remind you of the wild, but they are very soft at heart! They perform with great enthusiasm for their affectionate owners as they have a devoted nature and spirit – a quality that sets them apart from many other breeds!
